Tell us briefly about your modeling career and what has come out of it.
I am a model, poet, published author, college graduate, violinist, and motivational speaker. As a model I have appeared in online publications, print magazines, beauty and commercial advertisements, runway and trade shows. I love being a creative artist! I have always loved the arts and have realized that modeling is an expression of oneself in its most artistic form.
Tell us some of your greatest achievements in your career today.
I’ve had the pleasure of appearing in Vibe Magazine and numerous national hair and beauty advertisements. I’ve had people tell me they have seen one of my national hair advertisements in a huge beauty supply chains across the nation. However, my greatest achievement has still yet to come. With diligence, hard work, perseverance and intellect, I know I will reach my greatest achievements!
As a poet and speaker, my achievements include speaking at the Apollo Theater, CNN Person of the Day, UPN, NBC, and Good Morning America. I have had my work appear in Ebony Magazine, Scholastic Magazine, and other publications.
What are some of the toughest challenges about your job and what are some things you do to overcome the challenges?
The toughest challenge about the job is trying to stand out in an industry where there are 100 girls that may look similar to you. I always tell myself the best way to stand out in a crowd is to be unique. I’ve been a poet and writer since I was six years old. I feel that this gift has allowed me to be unique and irreplaceable in a place where so many girls may act and look the same. The thing is to be memorable. A pretty face may fade, but a spoken word and written word is forever.
What are some characteristics you should have to be prepared in this industry?
Strength, endurance, intelligence, a strong backbone, and to know that there is no wishbone. In this industry if you wish for something, but don’t take action, than it remains just that – a wish. Build that backbone and don’t let anybody deter you from your dream.
Have that support, whether a family member or a close friend, and stay on praying grounds because the industry is full of wolves in sheep’s clothing. Take risks and chances! But also be careful and prayerful!
What should aspiring female models be careful of? What are some things that can be unforeseen?
Modeling scams, GWC (Guys with Cameras), non-professionals, anyone who is not a legit manager or agency.
What hobbies are you into outside of modeling? What do you do on weekends and on your time off?
Some hobbies of mine include playing chess, Sudoku, and gardening. I also enjoy playing the violin. On weekends I like to take it easy and write some poetry, work on my young adult books, or hang out with my family and dog Cookie.
Any last statements for Rude Boy viewers?
Be true to yourself and love yourself and what you do! You will have fans and you will have critics. Listen to the positive, discard the negative, and live your life to the fullest. Life is too short to listen to naysayers. Follow your dreams and never give up on you!
